Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has been called an “absolute disgrace” after being seen elbowing an Ipswich coach, according to Tim Sherwood.
The Brazilian forward was charged by the FA following a post-match altercation with an Ipswich staff member after Wolves’ late defeat to the Tractor Boys.
Cunha was caught on camera elbowing the coach in the back of the head before forcefully removing his glasses.
A suspension is expected, with former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett predicting a three-match ban.
Former Tottenham player Tim Sherwood shared his thoughts on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, calling for a “heavy” punishment.
He said (12:27 p.m.): “Cunha is an absolute disgrace for what he does there. I’m a big admirer of this boy as a footballer.
“As a man, you cannot do that. It’s a cowardly move that. He elbowed the fella in the back of the head when he’s not looking, then grabbed his glasses and threw them onto the floor.
“Absolute disgrace, and they should come down heavy on him”.
Wolves and Vitor Pereira have a relegation battle on their hands
Football Insider opinion
The Midlands club has once again turned to super agent Jorge Mendes, appointing Vitor Pereira as their new manager.
With Wolves sitting 19th in the Premier League and five points away from escaping the relegation zone, the new coach faces a challenging fight between now and the end of the season.
Despite lingering concerns over profit and sustainability rule issues, the hierarchy appears ready to back the Portuguese coach with January signings.
The battle for survival could become even tougher if Cunha faces a suspension for his recent actions.
Their striker has been constantly linked with moves, including a return to Atlético Madrid. But he has been a crucial figure for the club this season, contributing 11 combined goals and assists.
While his behaviour has caused controversy, Wolves may need to rely on him to help secure their Premier League status.
Player discipline has been an issue throughout the season. This includes Mario Lemina losing his captaincy after a scuffle against West Ham. This highlights the team’s struggles under Gary O’Neil.
Now, it’s up to Pereira to unify the squad and instil a sense of cohesion to turn their fortunes around.
In other news, Matheus Cunha drops hint to a potential transfer.
