Rangers attacker set for return as Clement shares injury update ahead of St Johnstone clash

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed that Danilo is set to feature in some capacity against St Johnstone.

The Light Blues get their League Cup campaign up and running against Craig Levein’s side at Hampden Park on Saturday (17 August) having been dumped out of Champions League qualifying by Dynamo Kyiv.

Danilo was an unused substitute in Tuesday (13 August) night’s European clash and while he hasn’t played in a competitive fixture so far in 2024, Clement has confirmed he is set to finally return.

As quoted by Four Lads Had A Dream via X (16 August) he said: “Danilo is in the selection for tomorrow, yes.

“I cannot predict everything before the game. But it’s the idea that he has playing minutes tomorrow.”

Is Rangers striker Danilo still injured ahead of St Johnstone clash at Hampden Park?

It has felt like an age since supporters last saw Danilo in competitive action in a Rangers shirt, but it is great to hear that the Brazilian will finally be back in the fold in some capacity for the League Cup clash at Hampden Park.

Clement has had to rely on the goals and fitness of Cyriel Dessers alone over the last nine months and while the Nigerian has continued to deliver week after week, it is clear he needs some support at the top of the pitch.

While Hamza Igamane continues to get up to speed following his summer transfer, it will be down to Dessers and Danilo to score the goals to fire the Gers into the title race and into the next rounds of the cup.

Hopefully, the Brazilian can get through Saturday’s game without picking up any fresh injury issues. While fans and pundits are desperate to see him back in action, they won’t want to risk his fitness further by rushing him back.

Clement is known to be incredibly safe when it comes to bedding players back into the fold after setbacks so he must be confident that the striker is ready if he has confirmed he will feature.
