Ibrox View: Rangers appear to spark bidding war to sell first-team player for more money

Rangers clearly appear to be sparking a bidding war for Rabbi Matondo amid the recent stance of Leeds United.

Beren Cross, who works for LeedsLive and has close ties within the Elland Road club, was quick to throw cold water on any links to the Wales international.

Football Scotland reported on 15 August that Leeds were keen on securing the services of the 23-year-old.

However, that’s not believed to be the case with Cross claiming that the winger’s representatives and potentially the Ibrox outfit are looking to increase interest in his services.

He wrote: “The Whites have no interest in the 23-year-old, yet Rangers and Matondo’s representatives can use Leeds in the media to encourage other clubs to come forward. Links to Leeds will only multiply over the next fortnight and many of them will be erroneous.”

Rangers are cleverly leveraging interest in Matondo to boost his transfer value by allowing rumours, even if unsubstantiated, to suggest high demand.

This strategy could encourage other clubs to bid, increasing his market price.

To further this interest, Gers could highlight Matondo’s standout performances, focusing on his speed and goal-scoring prowess.

Engaging with the media through press releases and interviews, they could subtly indicate his availability for the right price, while also using various platforms to their advantage

This approach aims to maximise the financial return from Matondo’s sale, enabling Gers to reinvest in players that align with their long-term vision, thereby strengthening the first team.

While the 23-year-old did feature a lot last season, the Ibrox outfit undoubtedly need better players to win the title.
