'Substantial fee' - King expects PL club to demand £50m+ for big-name Tottenham transfer target

Bryan King can’t see Manchester City star Jack Grealish signing for Tottenham.

The ex-Spurs scout thinks Pep Guardiola’s side would want at least £50million-plus for the 29-year-old.

As reported by Give Me Sport (11 November), Tottenham are facing an uphill battle to lure Grealish to the club as the finances involved do not align with Daniel Levy’s plans.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think it would be a good move for the player either.

“I can’t see Grealish joining Tottenham,” King said.

“Manchester City will want a substantial fee for him. After all, they signed him for £100million, and it is going to be difficult to get that money back.

“However, they will want at least more than half of it back if he leaves the football club. I just can’t see Grealish at Spurs. If he came to London, there are an awful lot of distractions, it is a big city, I just don’t think Tottenham is the club for Grealish.”

If Spurs were to sign Grealish, he would likely need to become their record signing.

In addition, he would also likely need to become the club’s highest earner. Therefore, it is unlikely to see this transfer rumour coming to fruition.

Grealish will also be turning 30 at the beginning of next season. As a result, breaking the bank for the England international likely wouldn’t be wise.

Instead, Spurs would be better off putting that money toward a new contract for Son Heung-min.

Son’s camp are reportedly unhappy with Spurs (via TBR Football, 8 November), and the North London side have been urged to rectify this situation.

In other Tottenham news, another Premier League side are expected to demand £50million for one of the club’s targets.
