John Wenham doesn’t believe there is any pressure on Ange Postecoglou from within Tottenham.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose thinks the Australian needs time to fix some of the issues his side have experienced this season.
Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Ipswich Town in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (10 November). It was the North London side’s fifth defeat of the Premier League season after just 11 matches.
However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has reminded fans that the squad is still in the process of being rebuilt.
“I don’t think there is any pressure on Postecoglou from within the club,” Wenham said.
“I think there is a realisation that the squad is being rebuilt and it is still very young. Some of the results have been disappointing, make no mistake about that.
“However, I think apart from games against Ipswich, Crystal Palace and Coventry, the performances haven’t been bad, and we’ve deserved more than we’ve got from some games.
“Therefore, I think Postecoglou will just need some time to iron out some of these issues.”
Ange Postecoglou under pressure at Tottenham?
With Spurs having lost five matches after just 11 Premier League games this season, it is natural that questions would be asked of Postecoglou, with talks speculated between the Australian and Daniel Levy.
However, sacking the Spurs boss at this point could be a risky call which ends up backfiring.
Postecoglou is only in his second season at the club and has slowly been building a squad in his image. Therefore, starting from scratch once again might not be the right call.
Spurs have chopped and changed between managers in recent years, with a lack of clear direction. As a result, sticking by a manager might not be such a bad idea.
However, it is difficult to excuse recent results, and Postecoglou is no doubt still under pressure. Therefore, he will need to begin turning things around. Otherwise, he might leave Levy with no choice but to sack him.
