Fabrizio Romano says overseas club now 'advancing well' in talks to snap up 'fantastic' Arsenal player

Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front in the coming weeks, both in terms of incomings and also outgoings.

The Gunners have battled for the Premier League title in consecutive seasons and will be eager to go all the way next term. Strengthening their ranks will be key.

Arsenal also have players they could look to sell in order to free up wages and squad space. And that’s before getting on the subject of profit and sustainability rules.

Three players have left the Gunners so far this summer, namely Mohamed Elneny, Cedric Soares and Arthur Okonkwo, all on free transfers.

However, Arsenal now seem to be making progress in terms of moving two contracted players on.

On Thursday evening, Fabrizio Romano declared “here we go” on Albert Sambi Lokonga to Sevilla on a loan deal with option to buy.

Romano has also provided an update on another player on the fringes of Arsenal’s first team who could also be leaving soon.

Lazio making good progress in talks with Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares

The player in question is Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares, who has spent the last two seasons away from N5 on loan.

Romano has taken to X to claim that Serie A side Lazio are advancing well in talks with Tavares’ camp over personal terms.

There are also positive contacts regarding the player’s salary, while everything has been agreed club-side.

Arsenal have agreed a loan deal with a £7.5million obligation to buy and a sell-on clause included, added Romano.

Tavares closing in on fresh start away from Arsenal

Tavares joined Arsenal from Benfica three years ago for a reported £8million fee, but he has made just 28 appearances in all competitions.

Although he has shown glimpses of quality, with former Marseille manager Igor Tudor once deeming him “fantastic” and “outstanding”, he sadly hasn’t managed to maintain consistency.

Hopefully it won’t be long before the all-important “here we go” comes through, and Arsenal and Tavares can go their separate ways and make fresh starts.
