Rangers will be open to investment from the Middle East, as long as it is the right fit for the club, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.
It is understood that some members of the Light Blues board would be willing to speak to outside investors at Ibrox as long as they can find an interested party they can trust [Andy Newport, 3 September].
Former chairman Dave King has suggested he would look to secure investment from the Middle East and the US if he were to return [Rangers Review, 15 September], but Plumley believes the Gers board will have some big calls to make.
“It kind of comes with the territory nowadays,” Plumley exclusively told Ibrox News.
“Wherever the investment is coming from, there’s always going to be that internal conversation of whether they are right for us and do we align with them.
“There has to be that investment fit, especially if you’re looking at a minority investment to start with as an example and then building up, you’ve got to work with these people and have a good relationship with them.
“Irrespective of the geography of where that investment is coming from, there is that conversation at the boardroom level that it has to be right for the club as well.
“That’s why ultimately these things aren’t taken lightly.
“They’re big decisions at the boardroom level so while here is an attractive proposition there at Rangers for people to invest in, it’s got to work for the investors coming in and it’s also got to work for Rangers moving forward.”
Will Rangers receive new Middle East investment at Ibrox?
Rangers know that they need further investment if they want to close the gap to Celtic both on the pitch and in a financial sense.
On the face of it, investment from the Middle East will of course appeal given the riches available in Saudi Arabia and beyond, but the Light Blues will only want to deal with investors that they feel as though they can trust.
Hopefully, the Light Blues will be able to reach an agreement with a party in the near future so that some progress can truly begin to be made in Glasgow.
