Rangers boss Philippe Clement would be due a huge payout should the club decide to end his tenure at the club after their poor start to the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Scotland and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie remarked that football is the only industry where people receive pay-offs for ‘not doing their job,’ as the 51-year-old faces mounting pressure at Ibrox.
Clement’s side are six points behind Celtic and Aberdeen after missing out on the opportunity to close the gap on the top two after their 2-2 draw.
Philippe Clement facing an uphill battle at Rangers
Rangers gave the manager a new contract during the summer transfer window, extending his stay at Ibrox until the summer of 2028.
Clement’s side next face a visit from Romanian side FCSB as they seek to put a heavy 4-1 Europa League defeat to Lyon in the last round behind them.
“They’re not where they used to be, the club is in turmoil at the moment and it’s a shame because from the top downwards it’s a shambles”, McAvennie told Football Insider.
“Somebody has got to come in who knows how to run a football club, they’ve got businessmen coming in and they don’t know how to run it.
“Football is not like any other business and they need people coming in that know what they’re doing.
“Football management in the only job in the world where you get paid very handsomely for getting sacked.
“For not doing their job, you give them a lot of money, it’s incredible.”
