Radu Dragusin has failed to impress Ange Postecoglou yet again as Tottenham lost 2-1 to Ipswich Town on Sunday.
The 22-year-old is only in the starting XI due to Micky van de Ven’s new injury, seeing him partner Cristian Romero in the middle of defence, but it has not been enough to keep out the Premier League strugglers.
Little could be done as Sammie Szmodics fired an overhead kick past Guglielmo Vicario but Dragusin was back at the centre of attention as Liam Delap doubled the visitor’s lead on 10 November.
Speaking live via Sky Sports News [10 November, 2:44pm], O’Hara said: “Ipswich drive forward, get it out to the left, and pull it back across the box. Vicario makes a save and parries it into Dragusin, who nearly puts it in his own net, and Delap just smashes it into the net.
“Fair play to Ipswich. They’ve been really good going forward. But it’s really poor defending from Spurs.”
Tottenham missing Micky van de Ven as Radu Dragusin struggles
There is a clear gulf in quality between the centre-backs currently at Postecoglou’s disposal, with Spurs struggling once again and falling to a 2-0 defeat to the Tractor Boys.
Despite an 87 per cent passing accuracy, that was the only positive about the Romanian’s display, having made an error that led to a goal, being dribbled past twice and winning zero per cent of his tackles [FotMob].
He also only completed 50 per cent of his long balls (3/6), which slowed down some of Spurs’ attacks, and Postecoglou will be desperate to add a new defender during the January transfer window.
Dragusin’s stats speak for themself when it comes to defending, ranking in the bottom 11 percentile for tackles, the bottom 48 percentile for interceptions and the bottom 45 percentile for passes completed [FBref].
The centre-half is certainly running out of chances to prove himself and Postecoglou will be rather displeased with his performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In other Tottenham news, Jamie O’Hara was in disbelief at what Brennan Johnson did v Ipswich Town.
