Jamie O’Hara could not believe his eyes as Brennan Johnson failed to score after a “brilliant” cross from Son Heung-min in Tottenham versus Ipswich Town on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou survived an early scare as the Tractor Boys failed to capitalise on slack defending at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 10 November, nearly going down the other end and opening the scoring.

Following great work from Son down the left flank, Johnson found himself in the six-yard box with only Arjinet Muric to beat, but could only fire into the side-netting.

Speaking live via Sky Sports on Sunday [10 November, 2:04pm], O’Hara said: “Oh… It’s Brennan Johnson who misses from three yards out. It’s whipped in, a fantastic cross.

“It comes into the six-yard box, beating everyone, and Johnson gets his toe on it. He’ll be annoyed at himself for that touch but it’s a brilliant delivery by Son.”

Brennan Johnson misses chance as Tottenham face Ipswich Town

With four goals in the Premier League so far this season, the 23-year-old will have expected himself to hit the back of the net against strugglers Ipswich.

After a lack of goal contributions against West Ham, AZ Alkmaar, Crystal Palace and Manchester City, he now has back-to-back contributions against Aston Villa and Galatasaray.

Of course, after losing 3-2 in the Europa League midweek, all three points against a relegation-threatened side is the most important thing and Johnson squandered a chance to give his side an early lead.

With the international break coming up, it is vital that Postecoglou’s team head into the two-week break with a victory, but that has been made much harder after goals from Sammie Szmodics’ and Liam Delap.

Son also looks back to his best, who joined Johnson in being hooked at half-time against Galatasaray, and will feel disappointed not to have added to his three Premier League assists so far.

In other Tottenham news, here are three defenders Ange Postecoglou could sign in January.
