Dan Plumley has reacted to the news that Daniel Levy is set to give Ange Postecoglou a £100m budget to boost his Tottenham attack.

The Lilywhites are keen to bolster their squad with new attackers being targeted, and FootballTransfers (18 June) report that Postecoglou will be given a huge budget to target the likes of Ivan Toney.

But that £100million is likely to be the entire budget barring any outgoings according to football finance expert Plumley, leaving Levy with a job to do if Postecoglou wants any other positions strengthened in the window.

That goes in line with Spurs and how they’ve been run as a club over the years,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.

“But they’re always one of those clubs that you look at and say, ‘you can spend if you want to’. We are seeing them do that from time to time, and we’ve seen them not do that.

“It kind of stacks up with what we’ve seen with that particular club over the years and if you are going to commit that amount of funds then that’s probably going to be the budget, barring any outgoings.

“But I think financially, Spurs are always in, year on year, a pretty good spot to invest because of the way they’re run and their financial model is one we always talk about as being, in the context of the league, a very good one.”

Tottenham set for huge summer transfer window

After the drama of last summer with the managerial situation and Postecoglou getting his signings in, the 2023/24 season was certainly a success in the bigger picture of things.

The club will want to go one step further in 2024/25 by claiming Champions League football, but to do that they will need to improve in all areas of the pitch and that means spending money.

Certain players are not good enough to do what the manager wants and will be moved on, but Postecoglou must get his targets in to make the squad play the way he wants them to and that means splashing the cash is a necessity.

Timo Werner was brought back on loan in a cost-saving exercise rather than triggering a £17million buy-option, and more solutions like that could be vital in N17.

It’s going to be a very interesting summer window and fans should be excited that Levy is going to give the manager cash to make those decisions and bring his people in.

In other Tottenham news, a full takeover of the club could be being lined up already.
