Finance Expert reacts as Rangers want player who was on £65k-a-week

Dan Plumley has insisted that Brandon Williams would need to lower any potential wage demands to sign for Rangers this summer.

The Light Blues are said to want the left-back [Daily Record], who has just been released by Manchester United, where he was estimated to be earning £65,000-a-week [Daily Mail].

The finance expert admitted that would likely need to drop as it would immediately put pressure on the clubs and its wider finances at Ibrox.

“You would certainly suggest that it needs to drop,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“It’s not impossible that you could pay those sort of salaries but I think it puts pressure on the club and the wider finances.

If some of the higher-paid players are reportedly on around half of that, you’ve got to look at that through multiple lenses.

You’ve got the financial situation, missing out on the Champions League, but if you’re looking at putting financial pressure on the club through a wage position then you’ve got to balance that as well with the money would won’t get from the Champions League and the dynamic of what it can do to the squad.

I would suggest when you put all of that together that the more prudent way to look at that is the figure would have to come down if that transfer is to happen and I think you have to look at that bigger picture of the whole club rather than just one player.”

Rangers to sign Brandon Williams?

With the likes of Todd Cantwell and Scott Wright [Sky Sports] set to join Ben Davies in leaving the club this week, attention can turn to incomings.

Finances are quite tight at Ibrox, which is no secret, so shopping in the free agent market would be no surprise, with no time limit on those arrivals.

Wages like that simply are not on the table in Govan though, and despite the door opening for new signings, they have to be smart.

In other Rangers news, Jack Butland’s representatives have shared a new transfer update ahead of the 30 August deadline.
