Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell has agreed to join Blackburn Rovers in a late £500,000 transfer, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported via his Patreon on Wednesday (28 August) that the Englishman has agreed to take a small wage cut to complete his move to Ewood Park having asked to leave Ibrox earlier this summer.
Cantwell will complete his move to the Championship club in time to feature against Burnley on Saturday (31 August) after Rovers managed to overcome several hurdles to get this deal complete and over the line.
Philippe Clement had confirmed earlier this summer that Cantwell had handed in a request to leave Ibrox and Rovers boss Eustace had even confirmed that he is of interest to them in the final days of the window.
Will Todd Cantwell exit Rangers amid Blackburn Rovers transfer rumours?
While things appear to be heading in the right direction for Cantwell to complete his move away from Ibrox, Rangers fans will know that they cannot count their chickens before they hatch at this stage of the summer.
The Englishman is clearly very eager to not only leave Glasgow, but Scotland as well and it would have therefore been a bit of a surprise if he hadn’t been able to reach an agreement on personal terms for a move to Blackburn.
Eustace’s project at Ewood Park is a fairly attractive one and there appears to be a clear space for the Englishman to slot into now that Sammie Szmodics has completed his move to the Premier League with Ipswich Town.
Hopefully, the finishing touches will be put on the deal sooner rather than later. Clement will be eager for this deal to be done as soon as possible so that he can focus on last-minute incomings rather than outgoings.
There may only be a few days left of the window, but there is still an awful lot of work to be done on the blue side of Glasgow.
