Rangers are “famous for their stinginess” amid behind-the-scenes unrest of Ianis Hagi, according to Adevarul.
The Romanian news outlet took a swipe at the Gers’ financial management on 28 August, with 25-year-old Hagi frozen out of Philippe Clement’s team and facing a last-gasp exit from Ibrox.
It is understood that the “main goal” for the Light Blues is to get rid of the former Genk midfielder before the transfer window shuts at 11pm on Friday night (30 August) due to the fact that if he plays another game, he’ll earn a pay rise.
Adevarul describes Hagi as an “untouchable player” in the Romania national team due to the profile of his father Gheorghe Hagi, who will cause an “exhausting, nerve-wracking scandal” if he’s left out of any future squads as his exile continues in Scotland.
Ianis Hagi took to his personal Instagram account on Tuesday (27 August) to confirm that he still wants to play for Rangers despite the speculation in the media.
Rangers finances blasted by Romanian media as Ianis Hagi ‘scandal’ threatens
This is all getting rather messy.
Hagi’s father Gheorghe may have been a big-name player in his day but the former Barcelona striker’s influence on Hagi’s football and the Romanian national team seems a bit crazy.
On top of that, Ianis Hagi’s agent, Giovanni Becali, is also stirring the pot by recently saying that he’d pay money out of his own pocket to secure the midfielder’s move away from Ibrox.
The whole thing is a joke and Rangers need to get a handle on it fast because it sounds like they’ve lost control of the situation due to just how weird things are in Romanian football.
They either need to get a grip and let Hagi play more one game to reach 100 appearances for the club and get a pay rise. Who knows, he might offer something better than what the club has already got.
Or they just need to get rid of him because there’s just so much unrest happening at the moment that this is something that really isn’t needed on top of it all.
Philippe Clement might not fancy Hagi but has he even given him a fair shot?
Maybe it’s time for him to bite the bullet and do just that.
In other Rangers news, one player is close to leaving with Hagi’s teammate travelling out of Scotland to undergo a medical.
