Finance Expert shares Rangers approach after £4m transfer update from Ibrox

Dan Plumley has insisted that Rangers have taken a cash flow management approach to seal the signing of Oscar Cortes at Ibrox.

It has been confirmed that the Colombian will return to Glasgow on loan next season, with an obligation to make that permanent for £4million in 2025 attached [Daily Record].

The football finance expert admitted that pushing that fee forward gives them breathing space, although they will pay some fees throughout the loan anyway.

“It’s a cash flow management approach,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“If you want that particular player, and of course, there is still risk attached with any transfer, but if you’re in the market for that kind of player and you don’t think that you can commit the outlay immediately or even if the transfer fee or instalments are high, a loan with an obligation to buy can sometimes suit all parties.

There will be a bit of that deal done in the loan period, there will be some kind of negotiations to be had about how that works and then the obligation.

I wouldn’t say risk-free because no transfer is nowadays, but it just offsets that a little bit and you can manage your cash flow accordingly in line with your sporting performance.

For Rangers, a lot of that movement in the transfer market year-to-year depends on ultimately Champions League qualification or not for the types of players that they are targeting.

It buys you breathing space going down that road with signing players.”
