'Absolutely' - Pundit backs Rangers for 'No-Brainer' Miovski transfer, could score 40

Bojan Miovski would be a “no-brainer” signing for Rangers if they can get him but Philippe Clement might have to be persuasive to do it, says Derek Ferguson.

FotMob reported on 23 May that the Light Blues were in the race to sign the Aberdeen striker along with the likes of Celtic and Southampton, having been tipped to be sold this summer by former boss Neil Warnock on talkSPORT (3 April, 8.52am) with Old Firm interest.

Ex-Ibrox midfielder Ferguson admits that if it comes down to a battle between the two sides of Glasgow it is the Hoops who have got the bigger transfer budget.

However, he suggested that despite the views of fans there is no “shame” in Rangers providing a bigger platform for a player like the North Macedonian to put himself in the shop window for a transfer to the Premier League if the club can benefit along the way.

And after de facto number one striker at Ibrox Cyriel Dessers managed to score 22 last season Ferguson feels a fully-functioning Rangers side with Miovski up front could see him almost double that figure if he made the move.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “You look at Dessers, he scored 22 goals in a team that’s never really hit the heights this season.

“But if you can imagine a Rangers side at it, playing well, full pelt every week, I can see [Miovsk] scoring 30-40 goals in a Rangers side with the amount of chances we’d be able to make for him.

“I just like him. There’s a lot to like about Miovski, absolutely. But again if it comes down to money, who’s got more money, it’s going to be Celtic.

“We know that. There’s Champions League, they’ve got a few bob in the bank. So we’ve got to attract him in some other way and that comes down to the manager.

“The managers sit down, and when you’re sitting across the table you’ve got to be extremely persuasive and offer them certain things.

“Sometimes it’s not money, maybe the other thing is just gaining that platform to show his worth to get him down to England.

“There’s nae shame in that. I think sometimes the Rangers and the Celtic fans get a bit annoyed about it.

“But if a player comes to us at Rangers and plays out of his skin for a couple of seasons, does ever so well, I don’t mind him heading down south to make the big bucks and get a wee bit more of the limelight.

“So Miovski’s a no-brainer for me.”

Is Rangers and Aberdeen deal impossible compared to Celtic?

Rangers
Philippe Clement would have to be persuasive if a Rangers move for Bojan Miovski is available.

Rangers appear to be strongly placed to snap up another Aberdeen ace in Connor Barron according to the Scottish Sun (12 June), but only because the Dons are powerless to stop it with the midfielder leaving on a free transfer.

But direct transfer business between the two sides is much easier said than done so it may require Miovski himself agitating to leave and an offer from Ibrox they couldn’t refuse at Pittodrie.

The 24-year-old has demonstrated his obvious quality in scoring 44 goals over the past two seasons, to make interest from Ibrox, Parkhead, and further afield no surprise, but it might be an easier deal for Brendan Rodgers to get done.

There is perhaps a more feasible proven Scottish Premiership star from a Rangers point of view in Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland, with the Jambos seemingly anticipating an exit, but the transfer links to the Light Blues have gone rather quiet on that front to suggest perhaps Clement is looking elsewhere entirely.

In other Rangers news, a Premier League defender who is now available admits he hasn’t ruled out an Ibrox move.
