Four Lads: Rangers first-team staff decide to sub B team wonder early ahead of senior games

Zak Lovelace was taken off early for the Rangers B team after a decision from first-team management, Stevie Clifford has said.

The Four Lads Had a Dream blogger posted on X after the 4-1 victory over Stenhousemuir on Tuesday (22 October), saying Lovelace’s early withdrawal came from first-team staff.

Philippe Clement’s management team were in attendance at Forthbank Stadium for the B Team’s SPFL Trust Trophy match, seeing that Lovelace came off at half-time, rather than at 75 minutes.

Rangers next play FCSB in the Europa League on 24 October, before St Mirren comes to Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.

Zak Lovelace can solve left-wing problems at Rangers

It’s hardly surprising to see Clement look to Lovelace to help address the seemingly constant issues that have plagued the Light Blues on their left-hand side so far this season.

Oscar Cortes’ re-signing on loan from Lens has only yielded further injury problems for the Colombian, while Rabbi Matondo has also been absent of late after picking up a knock in the Old Firm loss.

With Tom Lawrence in strong form through the middle, new signing Nedim Bajrami has been forced out wide in recent weeks, but the Albanian’s time in the number 10 role surely has to come soon.

As a result, a vacancy has opened up on the left-hand side, with Lovelace seemingly the best-placed of the Bears’ B Team to step into the breach after his performance against Stenhousemuir.

With three “huge” games coming up which could be vital for Clement’s future at Ibrox [Michael Stewart, 20 October], it remains to be seen if Lovelace will be thrown in at the deep end as the Gers look to address their stuttering form.

In other Rangers news, one journalist has told Gers fans to ease criticism on one player who has become a lightning rod at Ibrox.
