Frank McAvennie claims Rangers player could be worth '£50m' - 'OMG'

Cyriel Dessers is on his way out of Ibrox Stadium this summer as Rangers are open to selling him, but his potential destination of Greek club PAOK would be a “step down.”

That’s the view of former Celtic and Scotland striker Frank McAvennie, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers forward.

Dessers thrived in the Scottish Premiership last season, scoring 13 goals, but that isn’t going to stop Rangers from offloading him this summer.

Football Insider revealed the Gers would be willing to accept a £5million bid for the 29-year-old to then reinvest into the squad for the upcoming season.

As Football Insider reported, Dessers is highly thought of within the football club, as the striker was believed to have “transformed his career” during the second half of last season.

Cyriel Dessers could be tempted to leave Rangers for financial reasons

Danilo was the closest striker to matching Dessers’ goal contributions last season, but after managing only six in all competitions there will be question marks over if Rangers can replace the Nigerian international.

“That’s a decent run,” McAvennie told Football Insider regarding Dessers’ 22 goals last season as he admitted to not believing Danilo or Sam Lammers can reach those levels.

“If Dessers had scored the goals that he missed he’d be worth about £50million, but the boy is getting the chances.

“Why would you want to go to Greece after Rangers? He’s going for the money, obviously, because that’s ridiculous.

“Why would you want to go after such a big club like Rangers, the fans, and you’re going to go there? My god, that’s a step down.”
