Frank McAvennie: Rangers fans are fuming and I can't blame them

Rangers fans have been criticised for failing to fill Hampden Park while the Ibrox undergoes renovations but it’s not entirely their fault.

That’s the opinion of ex-Scotland striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, McAvennie believes the finger should be pointed solely at the ownership and the fans are constantly “getting hit” by their poor decisions.

Rangers are due to return to the Ibrox after renovations to the legendary Copland Road Stand for their third league home game against Hibernian on September 28th.

The club’s finances have taken a serious hit following their failure to qualify for the Champions League group stages thanks to their 2-0 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (14 August) that Rangers have missed out on earning an extra £40million in revenue following their elimination from the Champions League.

Rangers fans set for Ibrox return soon

The Glasgow giants beat Motherwell 2-1 in their first ‘home’ game of the season thanks to goals from Cyriel Dessers and new signing Vaclav Cerny.

“There’s a lot of upset fans there”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“The fans have put a lot of money into Rangers and when you spend money on shirts and boots, you expect the custodians to look after it and they obviously haven’t.

“Somebody has done wrong at Ibrox, I don’t know who’s to blame but someone is going to get blamed for it.

“It’s the fans that are getting hit again so the only way they can really protest is to not go but I can’t see them doing that.

“I think they will get behind the team.”
