Tottenham are keeping tabs on Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher after the fiasco surrounding his planned move to Atletico Madrid, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Ange Postecoglou “would love” to sign the England international.
Tottenham are in the market for a central midfielder before the 31st August cut-off, and Gallagher is someone the club have monitored for some time.
Postecoglou wants to bolster this area of the field, and he has already signed Archie Gray from Leeds United this summer.
However, sources claim that a deal happening between Chelsea and Spurs is unlikely to take place.
Gallagher had flown to Madrid ahead of his expected move, but it fell apart and the situation is now in limbo.
The La Liga giants are still expected to eventually land their target, as they are now in negotiations with Chelsea over a deal for Joao Felix which would facilitate that.
Tottenham might need to focus on other targets than Conor Gallagher
Even though Spurs are poised to try and hijack the Gallagher transfer if the situation arises, the club may also need to contemplate other options.
The 26-year-old is seen as a possible replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who departed for Marseille in this window.
Postecoglou is also planning to offload Oliver Skipp before the transfer window closes.
In other news, Tottenham tipped to accept ‘big Richarlison offer.’
