Fraser Wilson shares Philippe Clement Rangers sack verdict ahead of Aberdeen clash

Fraser Wilson believes Rangers should keep Philippe Clement in charge even if they lose to Aberdeen on Wednesday (30 October).

The Gers are six points behind both the Dons and Celtic and will be looking to halve that deficit in their upcoming Scottish Premiership clash at Pittodrie.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (28 October), the journalist shared why he thinks Rangers should stick by Clement.

“This could be the fourth October/November in the year that they could decide to change manager,” he said.

“So where are they going with all this I’m not saying that [losing to Aberdeen] is a reason not to [sack Clement] but I’d be inclined to stick by him.”

Later in the podcast, Wilson revisited the topic and shared his reasoning behind why he’d keep Clement.

“I don’t know, I just think there’s something about Clement, I don’t know if it’s his success in other countries or his backstory but I’d just be inclined to give him a little longer, to show a wee bit of faith in him.”

Rangers need to make a decision about Philippe Clement soon

Rangers have been on the back foot for most of the 2024/25 campaign. They’ve put in many below-par performances this season and have found themselves in the shadows of their bitter rivals Celtic and Jimmy Thelin’s side.

Their clash against the Dons will be a real test for the club and could be one of the reasons behind whether they find themselves in the title race by the end of the season.

Vaclav Cerny’s recent form will no doubt have an impact on the game with the Czechia international in his best goalscoring form since arriving at Ibrox.

These are all maybes of course, but unless Clement cuts down the deficit between Rangers and their title rivals, it’s hard to see how he could be kept in his role.

That is, despite Rangers interim Chairman John Gilligan backing Clement publically on Sky Sports (24 September).

However, that was over a month ago now and a loss could end up being the final nail in the coffin for the Belgian’s tenure.

In other Rangers news, Nico Raskin has been named in Kris Boyd’s team of the week.
