'Got to do more' - King urges Everton to improve in one area after recent transfer speculation

Bryan King believes Everton must do more when it comes to developing young players at Finch Farm.

The ex-Goodison scout claims English sides must avoid relying on signing talented young players from South America.

It comes after Homme du Match reported (9 November) that Lille, Benfica and Everton are all interested in 18-year-old Fluminense striker Kauã Elias.

However, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – thinks this interest is simply speculative at this point.

“I think English clubs, including Everton, have got to do more when it comes to developing young players,” King said.

“They can’t keep relying on going to South America and bringing over 16, 17 or 18-year-old talents.

“It is nice for clubs to monitor these players, and once they break into the international scene then make a move for them. However, a lot of this is speculation, especially when we’re talking about players of that age.”

Everton to sign 18-year-old Fluminense striker Kauã Elias?

It is always exciting for supporters to read that their club are keeping an eye on exciting young talent from South America, considering the success of a lot of players from that part of the world.

However, it is worth remembering that for every Lionel Messi and Ronaldo, there are countless players who made the move from South America to Europe and didn’t excel.

Therefore, it is a gamble and one that perhaps the Toffees can’t afford to make at this point. Elias could reportedly be available for around £6million, which isn’t a large fee.

However, considering Everton’s recent financial turmoil, it is money that doesn’t need to be spent.

As King has suggested, there are plenty of players in the club’s academy who would be desperate for an opportunity, and who could also do just as well as Elias might do.

In other Everton news, the club could be gifted a lifeline after injury news this week.
