Rangers need clashes at the top of the club to shake them out of their current malaise and should bring Dave King back to the club, says Derek Ferguson.

The former Ibrox chairman has been vocally criticising the current board and backing himself to come back in on a two-year plan, going as far as to call for an EGM to vote on his return [Rangers Review, 19 September].

His abrasive and controversial style has been dismissed as unworkable in some quarters [Tom English, 20 September] but Ferguson believes it is exactly what the club needs after allowing themselves to fall so far behind Old Firm rivals Celtic when there is no bigger fan of the Light Blues than King.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “No I think it’s a good thing because if we keep sailing along the way we are we’re always going to be second best to Celtic.

“It’s clear to see and that’s been happening for a number of years so I think the fans are getting a bit frustrated at the moment.

“There’s no bigger Rangers fan than Dave King and he’s already done it before, he’s come in and he’s stopped 10 in a row for Celtic.

“He’s calling for that EGM, and why not? I like the way he goes about his business.

“Sometimes, whatever workplace you work in, you’ve got to get on with people.

“If it’s going to bring in investment I would have him straight through the door.”

Dave King return needed at Rangers as Creag Robertson leaves?

Dave King Rangers
Dave King wants to return as Rangers chairman since John Bennett’s resignation.

If a lack of success on the pitch since title 55 under Steven Gerrard wasn’t evidence enough that something is amiss at Ibrox the ongoing exodus from key positions should.

King launched his campaign to return after John Bennett’s resignation as chairman for health reasons to replaced by John Gilligan on a temporary basis.

He is already searching for a new chief executive to replace James Bisgrove from earlier this year and it has now emerged that director of football operations Creag Robertson is the latest to resign [Scottish Sun, 8 October], so something has to change.

In other Rangers news, Ianis Hagi is expected to leave the Light Blues despite his long-awaited return to the first team.
