Wenham speculates permanent exit for Tottenham forward as temp deal is finalised

John Wenham has suggested that Alejo Veliz could leave Tottenham permanently in the near future.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels that Will Lankshear has moved ahead of Veliz in the pecking order in North London.

As confirmed via the club’s official website on Wednesday (7 August), Tottenham striker Veliz has joined La Liga side Espanyol on a season-long loan.

And Wenham, who previously claimed that Veliz would leave the club on loan while speaking exclusively to Tottenham News (28 July) – believes a permanent exit could be in the offing.

“Veliz appears to be behind Lankshear in the pecking order in terms of strikers at the club,” Wenham said.

“Both players have similar characteristics and Lankshear is coming off the back of a 32-goal season with the under-21s.

“He has also scored twice in pre-season and has clearly established himself in that first-team set-up. Therefore, that has opened the door for Veliz to leave on loan.

“And Spurs might perhaps be lining up a permanent exit for the Argentine too.”

As reported by Sky Sports News (7 August), no buy-option has been included in Veliz’s loan to Espanyol.

However, that is not to say that the striker might not be sold next summer. If Veliz struggles to make an impact in Spain it could lead to his career in North London derailing as a result.

Lankshear will be hoping to shine this season and Spurs are also pushing to sign Dominic Solanke (via Fabrizio Romano, 7 August).

Therefore, that could leave Veliz surplus to requirements, which could lead to him being sold.
