Dan Bardell predicts if Rangers will sack Clement any time soon after winless start

Dan Bardell believes Philippe Clement’s future is safe despite a disappointing opening-day draw against Hearts.

The Gers began their Scottish Premiership season with a goalless draw at Tynecastle Park in a frustrating afternoon.

This stalemate came just one day after the Light Blues manager signed a fresh deal at Ibrox lasting until the summer of 2028 [Rangers.co.uk].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has concerns over the slow start but has suggested that the Belgian’s future is safe after signing a new contract.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “That’s the thing for Rangers. Any draw or loss feels like the end of the world because Celtic have won their game.

“They already have a head start on them so it is certainly disappointing from a Rangers perspective.

“They would have expected to have won against Hearts. It’s not the ideal start but Clement has just signed a new contract so it is clear that he is being backed and won’t be getting sacked.“

The Gers boss has come under fire in recent weeks and months for a whole host of issues that have surrounded the club.

Some, like the summer transfer business, may be out of his control but there is still criticism sent in his direction.

One thing that Clement can be slammed for is results and how is players perform on a game-by-game basis.

Losing out to Celtic in the Premiership and in the Scottish Cup was not good enough as Rangers showed a soft underbelly in the run-in at the end of the season.

Starting the season with a 0-0 draw wasn’t exactly what anyone wanted and with the manager persisting with the likes of Cyriel Dessers, criticism was always going to come in.

It is clear that John Bennett is backing Clement which points towards him staying at the club for the short term at least.
