'Here we go': Fabrizio Romano says rapid player reportedly wanted by Liverpool is now set for PL rivals instead

A couple of months ago, Liverpool were being linked with a player who is faster than Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland.

However, the Reds are now set to lose out on the player in question to Premier League rivals West Ham, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The player in question is Luis Guilherme, an 18-year-old attacking talent who has made a real name for himself at Brazilian outfit Palmeiras.

In April, the Daily Mail reported that Liverpool are closely monitoring the Palmeiras No. 31, who can play on either wing or centrally in the No.10 role.

However, recent speculation about Guilherme has seen him heavily linked with the Hammers, and now Romano has declared ‘here we go’ on the move.

He wrote on X: “Luis Guilherme to West Ham, exclusive story confirmed and here we go. “Medical completed today, contract to be signed on Wednesday.

“€23m (£19.4m) fee plus €7m (£5.9m) add-ons and 20% sell-on clause to Palmeiras, deal sealed by director Tim Steidten. Contract until June 2029 + option.”

Liverpool miss out on Luis Guilherme as West Ham edge closer to signing

Both Liverpool and West Ham have been tipped for busy summers on the transfer front, and both have been linked with Guilherme, who looks set to be one of the next rising stars out of Brazil.

Guilherme recorded a top speed of 36.4 km/h during the Copa do Brasil U17 final against Vasco da Gama back in 2022 – according to The Beautiful Game.

As detailed by SpeedsDB, Erling Haaland’s quickest speed is 36.2 km/h, which just goes to show how rapid Guilherme is.

However, the Reds already have plenty of quality in the final third, both in the first team and coming through the ranks.

It looks as though Liverpool haven’t been particularly proactive on this front in recent weeks, while West Ham clearly wanted Guilherme more.

Now, it looks as though the next step will be an announcement from the Hammers, if all goes well.
