'Horrendous' - Wenham tears into Chelsea ace amid 'disappointing' Tottenham transfer claim

John Wenham has blasted Chelsea ace Pedro Neto after Tottenham missed out on the forward.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims he is not bothered about the club failing to sign the 24-year-old.

Chelsea announced the arrival of Neto from Wolves via the club’s official website earlier this month (11 August).

Tottenham had been linked with a move for the Portugal international and submitted a player-plus-cash offer which was turned down by Wolves (via The Standard, 9 August).

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the North London side are better off without the player.

“Neto’s injury record is absolutely horrendous,” Wenham said.

“Supporters complain about Giovani Lo Celso or Richarlison being injured. However, Neto misses more games than those two.

“He has games where he’s amazing, but a player like Brennan Johnson put up much better stats than him last season, and supporters never seem satisfied with him.

“Therefore, I am not disappointed about missing out on Neto at all. If Ange Postecoglou wanted him then it is disappointing, we couldn’t back the manager and get the player he wanted.

“However, from my point of view, I am not disappointed at all.”

Chelsea sign Pedro Neto ahead of Tottenham

Neto has made a positive start at Stamford Bridge, grabbing an assist as Chelsea thrashed his former side Wolves 6-2 at Molineux on Sunday (26 August).

However, the winger is known to spend plenty of time on the sidelines and has a reputation for often getting injured.

Therefore, only time will tell if this was a smart bit of transfer business by Chelsea.

There is no doubting the player’s talent, and Spurs supporters would have no doubt loved to sign Neto. However, there are plenty of exciting forwards for the club’s supporters to get behind this season.
