'How many times?' - Shearer responds as Lineker makes 'Devastating' Everton claim

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have shared their disbelief after Everton somehow managed to throw away their 2-0 cushion against Bournemouth despite leading in the 86th minute.

To make matters worse, the Toffees were actually the better team for at least 80 minutes of the game but just managed to fall at the final hurdle.

The game ended in a 3-2 loss for Sean Dyche’s men as they managed to extend their poor run of form in the Premier League.

Whilst speaking on The Rest is Football Podcast [2 August, 32m 1s], Shearer and Lineker couldn’t believe Everton’s capitulation and admitted that psychologically, the Toffees’ players won’t be doing too well.

Lineker said: “The difference between getting a good win and then going into the international break you come back with fresh hope.

“But psychologically that’s pretty devastating isn’t it for all the people at Everton; the fans as well as the players.”

Shearer said: “We’ve said it before haven’t we about how many times a goal can change a game, I mean they were 2-0 up in the 87th minute.

“Then they get one and all of a sudden, a little bit of edginess and nervousness from the crowd and then that seeps down to the pitch and before you know it, you’re 3-2 down and you’re thinking what the hell has gone on?”

Sean Dyche needs to pick up the form of his Everton team now

Although the international break is now upon us, when players return back to their clubs fans will no doubt want to see an improvement from Dyche’s men.

The likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam had stellar outings for the Toffees at the weekend despite being on the losing side.

However, if Dyche can somehow manage to get the rest of the team’s performance levels in line with theirs, there would be no stopping them.

The duo have been among Everton’s best additions this transfer window and showed their worth against the Cherries.

But, without the rest of their team pulling their weight in the other areas of the pitch, their stellar performances will be worth nothing in the long run.

Orel Mangala will be a new face that Toffees fans can expect to see after the international break and will no doubt help Iroegbunam further solidify the centre of the park.

And, with Jarrad Branthwaite’s potential return also likely to be in the near future despite the most recent update [Liverpool Echo, 2 September], Dyche could have his fortunes turned around sooner than many may think.

In other Everton news, one commentator didn’t hold back when describing the Toffees players in their 3-2 loss to Bournemouth.
