'Huge' - Shearer shares Ipswich v Everton prediction, says what is unlikely to happen

Alan Shearer predicts Everton will edge a win against Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Saturday (19 October).

Sean Dyche enjoyed a three-match unbeaten run in the league before the international break and will take his side to Portman Road hoping to get his first win away from home this season.

Ex-Newcastle United striker Shearer is backing the Blues to come out on top in his Premier League predictions for The Metro [18 October], while adding he does not expect many goals to be scored.

He said: “This is already a huge game for both clubs in terms of where they will want to be at the end of the season. Both managers will be thinking this is a real opportunity to get some points on the board.

“I’m not sure if we’ll see a load of goals in this one, so I’m going to go for an away win for Everton, because I think they’ll be dangerous from set pieces, which could be the difference on the day.”

Everton face tough Ipswich Town clash at Portman Road

The Blues have managed to pick up one point on the road this season, in the 1-1 draw against Leicester City, and it will not be a straightforward affair against newly-promoted opposition in Ipswich.

Kieran McKenna has made his Ipswich side difficult to beat at home. Only Liverpool have left Suffolk with all three points this season, with Fulham and Aston Villa limited to a share of the spoils.

Everton will need to be at their best. One point and one league position separates the sides heading into the match and if all goes to plan, the Toffees could end the weekend five points clear of the relegation zone.

However, Jarrad Branthwaite is facing a race against time to be declared match-fit for the weekend, and injury concerns elsewhere could see Ashley Young moved to right-back, a sight no Evertonian wants to see after his early season performances.

The Blues have a golden opportunity to continue the momentum gained before the international break and could embark on a good run of form in the coming weeks should the side get the job done in Suffolk.

Dyche is still seemingly fighting for his job at Goodison Park this season and, unfortunately for the boss, he cannot afford to drop any more points in the Premier League if he is to convince prospective owner Dan Friedkin he should remain at the helm.

In other Everton news, questions emerge at the Blues regarding Nathan Patterson after new injury developments.
