'I am surprised': Darren Bent shares honest verdict on transfer news coming out of Newcastle

Darren Bent has given his reaction to transfer news emerging out of Newcastle United earlier today.

The Toon have been one of the more busier Premier League sides in the market this summer, with Newcastle winning the race to sign AFC Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly as well as signing Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.

With Newcastle on the verge of announcing William Osula as a new signing, more deals are expected for the Magpies in the final month of the window, where Eddie Howe will be looking to get the St. James’ Park side back into Europe.

And Bent has now shared his amazement over breaking transfer news surrounding Newcastle.

Bent in awe with Newcastle winning race to sign Marc Guehi

Speaking on TalkSport, the former England star revealed his surprise at Newcastle closing in on a deal to sign Marc Guehi, with the Crystal Palace defender a man in demand this summer after shining at the Euros.

Newcastle made a new bid for Guehi this Tuesday with the Toon confident that they will land the 24-year-old centre-back, with the former Chelsea defender regarded as one of the most exciting young defenders in the Premier League.

Yet for Bent, the pundit is surprised that Newcastle are the team to have won the race for Guehi, with the England international arguably good enough to feature for many of the biggest teams in the country if given the chance.

Bent said when asked if he’s surprised about Guehi joining Newcastle: “It doesn’t surprise me, though I am surprised not more teams are in for him. He would get into that Manchester United team, Chelsea could have bought him back, he would have been good for Liverpool alongside Van Dijk.”

Toon might have secured one of the signings of the summer in Guehi

Guehi was one of the standout performers in the Euros this summer with England as the Three Lions once again made it all the way to the final, with the Palace defender key to the run at the back.

And with Newcastle closing in on Guehi, the northeast Premier League side might be about to secure one of the signings of the summer in the 24-year-old, who is only getting better with each new season in the English top-flight.

Indeed, Newcastle’s backline with Guehi, Kelly and Sven Botman could be hard to break for many attacks, and the Toon now have a strong foundation to go for Europe next season with a defence as good as what they have.
