Everton and Aston Villa’s clash after the return from the international break is set to be the scene of fan protests from the home supporters, the Birmingham Mail reports.

According to the outlet’s website on 6 September the Villa fanbase is looking to mobilise for the meeting at Villa Park on 14 September to make their feelings known about the club’s Champions League ticket pricing.

The Villa Academy X account has published plans for supporters to push back against fan “exploitation” after expensive prices were released for Unai Emery’s side returning to the top European competition.

There is unlikely to be much of a better atmosphere among the travelling Toffees either, after the demoralising late defeat at home to Bournemouth left the side without a point heading into the break, bottom of the table, and Sean Dyche facing pressure on his position [TBR Football, 5 September].

There will be plenty of fan unrest to go round in the Midlands next weekend as things stand, although Evertonians might feel their plight is the worse.

Top level football has seemingly long since become a vehicle for investors and owners to fleece paying supporters at every opportunity, and PSR regulations appear to have provided the perfect excuse to crank it up a few notches.

So there will no doubt be solidarity from travelling fans over the pricing protest, even if they could only dream of worrying about Champions League tickets after the predicament the club has been allowed to slide into under Farhad Moshiri’s reign.

It is hardly ancient history when it was Everton who were knocking on the door of Europe’s elite competition, but now just staying in England’s top flight is enough of a concern.

However, Villa might represent a source of hope for some Toffees supporters as a club that did drop out of the Premier League and have since made a stunning recovery to their current position under new ownership, but not without some turnover at the top of the club.

Financially it looks to be a much greater risk to be relegated for Everton, but the need to move on from Moshiri is clear.

John Textor is currently attempting to take over the club after Dan Friedkin withdrew, although the Roma chief is expected to return in place of his compatriot by some around the process [Paul Brown, 29 August].

In other Everton news, a recent trophy-winning manager is in the frame to take over from Dyche as work starts to find a replacement.
