Tottenham Hotspur will not finish in the top four in the Premier League if they continue to be a “Jekyll and Hyde” team, according to Ian Darke.
Spurs emerge from the international break having lost each of their last two, including handing Ipswich Town their first win in the Premier League this season in North London [10 November].
Darke, exclusively speaking to Tottenham News, has lambasted the unpredictability of Ange Postecoglou’s side, with the Australian suggested to be “at his wits’ end”.
“Postecoglou seems restless, and he seems at a bit of a loss at what to do about it as well. They acted like they only had to turn up against Ipswich,” the TV commentator said.
“I wonder what the players thought when they saw his interview after the [Ipswich] game. He looked like a man at his wits’ end. They really are a mystery, Spurs – a real Jekyll and Hyde outfit.
“They can look so good and easy on the eye; they can also put in the terrible display against Crystal Palace and the limp performance against Ipswich. They won’t make it into the top four being as erratic as they are. You have to look at the mentality of the players.”
Tottenham Hotspur, the ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ of the Premier League
Postecoglou has been upstanding in the face of criticism for his bold style of play, the result of which leaves the Premier League with a Tottenham team leading the way for goals scored (23), but 10th in the table.
In such a tightly contested top flight, however, Spurs are still just three points off third spot. Many are finding it next to impossible to call whether they will reach the Champions League this season.
Next up for the Lilywhites is a trip to the champions Manchester City – tough on paper, but the side were victorious over Pep Guardiola’s men in the Carabao Cup on 30 October, and have won five of the last 11 league meetings to City’s three wins.
In other Tottenham news, one of the club’s recent opponents could launch a gigantic move for Son Heung-min.
