Everton insiders reveal what Coleman & Tarkowski did in changing room v B'mouth - report

Senior Everton players were the first to speak in a sombre dressing room after the team’s agonising defeat to AFC Bournemouth last Saturday, according to the Daily Mail.

On pages 80-81 of the newspaper’s print edition [6 September] it was noted that Seamus Coleman and James Tarkowski were among those to attempt to lift the spirits, acknowledging the team “failed to do the basics properly” in closing the game out from 2-0 up, as they threw away the lead to lose 3-2 in the final minutes at Goodison Park.

The Toffees remain pointless and rooted to the foot of the Premier League table at this early stage, with Sean Dyche left to pick up the pieces over the international break before a tricky trip to Aston Villa next weekend.

Everton attempt to pick themselves up from turmoil

Soundly beaten with 10 men by Brighton on home turf to open the season, going on to get thrashed at a dominant Tottenham side is one thing – the manner of that defeat to Bournemouth was entirely another.

Dyche’s team took their foot off the gas and the defending was utterly criminal. The abominable lack of organisation at the back to allow the Cherries to apply so much pressure late on and create those chances was just so, so poor.

The Mail article notes how the manager is never one to get too high or too low – you would expect nothing different from Dyche, who will apply himself in the correct manner, but it’s hard to ascertain whether the same can be said about his team.

Coleman and Tarkowski are among the important senior figures who can help steer the ship – it is after all just three games into the Premier League season – but they must all foot the blame in some way or another.

It looks like regression for the Blues from the end of the last campaign, and a harmony throughout the squad needs to be struck, quickly – because that Bournemouth defeat simply cannot happen again.

In other Everton news, Armando Broja names the deciding factor in arriving from Chelsea.
