Charlie Adam believes Rangers need to hire a permanent chairman as soon as possible to help relieve some of the “pressure” that’s building up around Philippe Clement.
The Belgian has been under some major scrutiny recently due to the Gers’ recent performances against the likes of Aberdeen and Kilmarnock.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer (5 November), Adam shared why he thinks a permanent chairman would help solve some of the issues the 50-year-old is facing.
“At the moment Philippe Clement is the spokesperson for the football club and that’s tough and you’ve seen that with some of the interviews that have come out recently,” Adam said.
“It looks like the pressure is there and that’s natural being at a big club, you’ve got to take the pressure but he sometimes needs somebody else to take the reigns and let him know what’s going on.
“Sometimes he probably doesn’t even know what’s going on so it’s important now that they get a chairman sorted and maybe a sporting director if that’s the way they want to go”.
Philippe Clement needs his Rangers team to step things up a gear
The Gers have had a rather topsy-turvy season thus far with defeats against teams such as Celtic, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock to name just a few.
While the odd loss can be accepted as a fluke, the fact that Rangers seemingly try to patch up a poor performance with a few mediocre wins isn’t ideal, especially for a team that’s supposed to be challenging for the title.
Clement’s men made their way to the Scottish League Cup final by the skin of their teeth after an average 2-1 win against Motherwell on 3 November and while this is a decent achievement, it doesn’t mean all that much unless they win.
Thursday’s (9 November) game against Olympiacos will be a real test for the Gers to see if they have what it takes to gain vengeance on Brendan Rodgers’ men in December.
If the result doesn’t go their way, however, that could spell the premature end of Clement’s Ibrox tenure.
But the issue is who would make the decision? John Gilligan has been acting chairman since John Bennett stepped down in September but it is clear there is a leadership void above Clement right now.
In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson has shared a moment when Cyriel Dessers and James Tavernier may have hit out at Philippe Clement.
