Rangers have suffered a terrible new injury blow as Tom Lawrence has been ruled out for between four and six weeks.
Philippe Clement’s quotes from his pre-match press conference before facing Olympiacos have been published via the club’s official X account [6 November], confirming he sustained the injury at the weekend against Motherwell [3 November].
The Gers are preparing to take on the Greek giants in Piraeus but must do so without their experienced attacking midfielder, who was substituted after 36 minutes in the Scottish League Cup semi-final win at Hampden Park.
Clement said: “Tom Lawrence hasn’t travelled, he got injured at the weekend and will be out for several weeks.
“He has been important for the team but it gives opportunities for other players to prove themselves.”
Rangers must attempt to challenge without Tom Lawrence
The news, also reported by Joshua Barrie on X [6 November], that it could be as long as six weeks that Rangers contend without Lawrence is a crushing blow.
The 30-year-old has five goal contributions in just seven league starts this season, a positive beacon in a difficult campaign so far in which his side find themselves nine points behind the top two.
It was already reported that Lawrence had missed training on Wednesday morning [PLZ Soccer, 6 September] ahead of the Europa League clash in Greece and fans were attempting to remain optimistic that it would be a far shorter absence.
But as it stands, he will now miss the rest of November and potentially part of the run-up to Christmas, during which time the Gers face seven more games before inviting Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham to Ibrox on 12 December.
It has poured in Govan rather than drizzled so far in 2024-25 as the treatment table invites a new member – a real bitter pill for the Ibrox support to swallow.
In other Rangers news, Jim White and Simon Jordan agree that what Celtic are doing is not benefitting the Light Blues.
