Philippe Clement has confirmed that both Ridvan Yilmaz and Rabbi Matondo are back in training ahead of Rangers’ clash with Olympiacos.
The Light Blues will face the Greek giants in the Europa League on Thursday (7 November) as they look to boost their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages and build on their win over Motherwell.
While Clement will have to make do without Tom Lawrence who has been left in Glasgow [Joshua Barrie, 6 November], he could call upon both Yilmaz and Matondo who are back in with the group.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday (6 November) Clement said: “Injuries are always going to happen in football and we are trying to make positive changes to reduce as many as possible.
“Ridvan Yilmaz is back in training, and so is Rabbi Matondo, so this is getting better.”
What has happened to Rangers star Ridvan Yilmaz at Ibrox?
There is still a lot of work to be done at Ibrox to get Clement’s squad back up to full fitness, but after a miserable few months, it feels as though things are heading in the right direction once again.
While Jefte has impressed at left-back during Yilmaz’s absence, the Turkish defender was one of the best performers under Clement last term and would add another dimension both in and out of possession that cannot be undervalued.
Similarly, Matondo was key at the start of the season and impressed supporters and pundits alike with his performances early on this term, despite being linked with a move south of the border during the transfer window.
Whether or not either player will be ready to feature from the off against Olympiacos on Thursday night remains to be seen. While they are both back in training, Clement did not go as far as to suggest they would start or come off of the bench.
In other Rangers news, Vaclav Cerny has been told that he looks like a “little boy” when he plays in the Scottish Premiership
