As sad as it is to say, we’re heading towards the end of an era at Liverpool.
Indeed, while the Arne Slot era at Anfield is only just getting started, it may soon be time to close an important chapter in the Reds’ history as a number of key players potentially gear up to leave the club.
Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are nearing the end of their contracts, and Alexander-Arnold is being strongly linked to Real Madrid.
Salah’s future remains up in the air, and there could be some serious player turnover next summer.
Meanwhile, Andy Robertson is the wrong side of 30, while Liverpool have already signed their Alisson replacement in Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Speaking on Liverpool’s YouTube channel, Salah has been discussing the idea of key players leaving Anfield, and he says that he has come to terms with the fact that everyone will eventually leave the club, stating that he realised this when Roberto Firmino left.
Mohamed Salah’s realisation when Roberto Firmino left
Salah says that he had a serious realisation about his teammates when Firmino left Liverpool.
Indeed, Salah says that when Firmino departed, he truly started to contemplate the fact that all of his teammates would eventually leave too.
“I see the guys and we share these unbelievable moments, especially us three plus Virg and Trent, the senior group,” Salah said.
“Because when Bobby left, for example, I just realised that everybody will leave one day, so I don’t take that for granted.”
How have Liverpool replaced their stars?
Firmino’s departure may have sparked a realisation in Salah’s head, but he’s not the only big-name to have left Liverpool in recent years.
Indeed, Liverpool have actually lost a number of influential players over the past few seasons, but, more importantly, they have done a stellar job of replacing their stars.

Liverpool have arguably upgraded on a number of their star players in recent times, and while that will be difficult to replicate if, and when, Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold leave, the club’s track record should give fans some hope that this impossible task will be faced head on.
Liverpool are going to lose a number of their key players in the coming years as they continue to age, but, based on the last few seasons, there’s no reason why the Reds can’t continue to be successful without these players.
