Ange Postecoglou has evidently always been keen to uphold very high standards for his squads at both Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur whilst managing in the United Kingdom.
Postecoglou was a winner at Celtic Park, but as he also anticipated at Tottenham, he knew things wouldn’t be easy straight away.
The 59-year-old arrived at Celtic as something of an unknown, Yokohama F. Marinos aren’t exactly a household name in Scotland or England.
But it certainly didn’t take Postecoglou too long to start dominating Scottish football with Celtic, a job he’s now trying to replicate at Spurs.
Unfortunately, after an incredibly fast start this time last year, Tottenham have now endured a disappointing beginning to the season, it hasn’t quite clicked.
Ange Postecoglou compares Tottenham struggles to being written off at Celtic
Of course, Postecoglou’s reiteration that he wins trophies in his second season thus far in his career has been front and centre to a lot of the post North London derby reaction.
The Tottenham manager had to defend his words in the build up to Wednesday’s clash with Coventry City in the EFL Cup – a chance to score some goals and lift the mood.

And amid the fall-out from Postecoglou’s claim, the Spurs boss did make an interesting comment about what he realised at Celtic when facing similar pressure.
Speaking via The Telegraph, Postecoglou harped back to when he was written off in Scotland before then winning the double.
He said: “We’re four games into a new season, it’s pretty early. I realised in Scotland, they’d rule me out after two games.
“They said it was all over in the year we won the double. I’m just going to say these things the way I always have and I’m not going to change.”
Dominic Solanke is also being harshly treated at Spurs
Of course, it does feel as if the reaction to both Postecoglou’s words and Tottenham’s start has been fairly dramatic.
The Spurs boss is evidently just trying to install belief and raise the bar in N17, trying to change the norm.
And on the subject of overreactions, it does feel as if Dominic Solanke’s first 180 minutes in a Tottenham shirt are being overly scrutinised too.
Ian Wright admitted he was worried about Solanke after the North London derby, legitimate comments but ones that perhaps come a little too soon.
And as mentioned, perhaps Spurs can remedy a bit of the negativity with an authoritative win against Coventry on the road.
