'I understand' - Ian Herbert shares what he knows on Everton & Graeme Sharp saga as he hits out

Everton’s security team found evidence that fans made plans to encircle Graeme Sharp and other directors in January last year, according to Ian Herbert.

The Daily Mail journalist reported in its print edition [23 October, pg 63] that the security hadn’t found any evidence that the 64-year-old was under threat of physical harm.

Herbert hit back at those claims that it was safe at Goodison Park and the frail evidence that led to him being ostracised at the club.

“I understand that the club’s security liaison team had not found any evidence to do him physical harm, though did have evidence of a plan to encircle directors in a confined space and voice complaints against the custodianship of the club,” Herbert wrote.

“Would any club security deem that to be a ‘safe’ environment? What terribly frail evidence on which to ostracise a legend.”

Graeme Sharp and Everton fans should reconcile

Sharp is undoubtedly a legend of the club, but it all turned incredibly sour over the past couple of years.

The 64-year-old’s appointment as a non-executive director during the low point at Everton has not helped his standing in the last few years.

The Toffees have struggled on the pitch, and the Goodison faithful have every right to question those pulling the strings at the club after seeing the team struggle year after year.

Therefore, when the team was at one of its lowest points last year, the protests against the board members shouldn’t have come as a surprise.

Everton have been in a relegation scrap over the last few seasons, but even when unhappy, these things have to be done correctly.

The ex-striker resigned from his post soon after [NYT, June 2023], but time heals and that should be considered after everything.

However, while Sharp’s involvement at the top was disappointing, fans should embrace him again as The Friedkin Group prepare to take over and end Farhad Moshiri’s reign.
