‘I wonder’: Alasdair Gold reckons Jose Mourinho could try to sign £15m Tottenham player now

Jose Mourinho is back in management.

The Portuguese gaffer has been at Fenerbahce, and it will be interesting to see how The Special One fares over in Turkey.

Mourinho has always had a knack of signing players from his former clubs throughout his career, bringing many of his Porto players to Chelsea all those years ago, and that trend has continued at many of his future clubs.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Alasdair Gold has been pondering which Spurs players Mourinho could sign at Fenerbahce, and he suggested that Joe Rodon could be a player Mourinho goes after.

Jose Mourinho could go after Joe Rodon suggests Alasdair Gold

The journalist spoke about Rodon, claiming that Mourinho was always a fan of the £15m man.

“I wonder, Jose quite liked Joe Rodon, I wonder if Jose would want to take Joe Rodon to Fenerbahce where he would do very very well,” Gold said.

Turkey a backwards step

As big a club as Fenerbahce are and as great a manager as Mourinho is, it’s hard to see Rodon making this move right now.

The Turkish League, with all due respect, is usually where players go to finish their careers, not to get things back on track or to use it as a stepping stone.

Rodon is coming off the back of a rather successful loan spell with Leeds United, and one would imagine that his next step would be to join another Premier League club and have a crack at the English top flight again.

Rodon is too young and too talented to move to Turkey at this point in his career, and while Mourinho may ask the question, it’s difficult to see the Wales international actually making this move.

Rodon’s next step should be a move within the Premier League rather than to a B-rate European league where he’s out of the spotlight.
