'I wouldn't be surprised' - Journo backs Dyche to make Young call for Everton clash v Ipswich

Joe Thomas has backed Sean Dyche to start Ashley Young at right-back for the clash between Everton and Ipswich Town.

The Toffees make the trip to Portman Road to face the Tractor Boys on Saturday (19 October) as they look to get back to winning ways in their first game after the October international break.

Although Seamus Coleman is fit and in contention for a starting role having recovered from injury, Liverpool Echo journalist Thomas still expects Dyche to start Young ahead of the Toffees’ skipper.

Speaking on the Royal Blue YouTube channel (18 October, 6:00) he said: “Mykolenko is back, that’s big news.

“It means that there’s less pressure on trying to find an answer to the right back problem which is also another issue. Coleman looks like he’s in contention, whether he starts or not I’m not sure.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Ashley Young out there, especially with Vitalii Mykolenko being back on the left. Coleman has been out for a fair few weeks.”

What has happened to Seamus Coleman at Everton and Goodison Park?

Having had next to no fullbacks to pick from before the international break, Dyche suddenly has everyone other than Nathan Patterson back at his disposal for Saturday afternoon’s trip to Portman Road.

Whether or not the likes of Mykolenko or Coleman are ready to play a full 90 minutes against Kieran McKenna’s side remains unclear, but it will be a major boost to the Toffees to be able to even call upon either player.

While Young has been a controversial figure during his time at Goodison Park, the veteran has been in impressive form in recent weeks and managed to chip in with some important assists before the international break.

It would be unfair for the former Manchester United man to be dropped from the starting XI just because Coleman is once again fit and available. Hopefully, Thomas will be right and Dyche will start Young at right-back and Mykolenko on the opposite flank.
