Rangers have left a lot to be desired this season as the club find themselves third in the Scottish Premiership and have already lost the first Old Firm game of the season 3-0.

The Gers were expected to put up a decent challenge for the title this term but instead, they’ve fallen well below par.

And although Philippe Clement brought in Nedim Bajrami for £3.3 million [Gianluca Di Marzio, 30 August], the Gers already had a solid number 10 ready and waiting in Ianis Hagi.

But, since the start of the summer window, the Romania international has been banished from the first-team squad due to the wage hike he’d receive [Daily Record, 13 August] after hitting 100 appearances for Rangers.

Rangers have wanted to offload the 25-year-old for what feels like forever, but after a report on Tuesday (24 September) shared that Hagi would be willing to negotiate a deal for the £6,000-a-week hike [Daily Record], Clement may now have no other option but to involve him in his setup.

Ianis Hagi would boost Rangers title chances

The Gers have been in a rut this season and have only just started to string passes together in a cohesive fashion.

While their attack has never been a weak point in the squad, Hagi’s involvement would no doubt boost the team tenfold and help ease the pressure off the shoulders of players such as Tom Lawrence and Bajrami.

Although Clement wants rid of the attacker, the fact that he’s adamant he wants to fight for his place shows his commitment to the club.

He only has a year left on his current deal and it feels like it would be a waste to see him in the B team for the entire season.

Especially after his recent performances for Rangers’ second team. The Romania international managed to bag a brace against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday (24 September), with one even coming as a stunning free kick.

The fact Hagi is putting in the hard yards for the reserves side and making a point with his performances is telling.

It’s still early in the season and things can obviously change, but the sooner Hagi is reintegrated, the better it’ll be for both parties.
