Rangers may have no other choice but to cash in on Tom Lawrence before his contract expires at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
The Gers have shown no inclinations of extending the Welshman’s contract beyond this date [Daily Mail, 14 November], and given his injury record during his time at Ibrox, it is really no surprise.
While the 30-year-old is one of Philippe Clement’s most threatening forwards when fully fit, therein lies the main issue, that Lawrence is always facing injury setbacks for whichever club he plays for.
He has missed 66 matches for club and country since arriving in Scotland on a free transfer in 2022 and only registering 56 appearances for the Light Blues in that time.
With 11 goals and seven assists in that period, he has proven himself to be quite a useful asset for the club but since he spends more time on the treatment table, it would not be surprising to see him exit soon.
Rangers to sell Tom Lawrence after new injury blow?
Lawrence has been handed a brand-new injury blow, a setback which is set to see him miss between four and six weeks, having been sidelined during the 2-1 League Cup win over Motherwell earlier this month.
The player will, undoubtedly, be frustrated with his own situation but the club must do what is right for them, and continuing to pay his wages while spending so much time off the pitch should not be an option.
The Gers cannot afford to waste money on those who spend more time on the treatment table, with Wales compatriot Rabbi Matondo in a very similar boat to the attacking midfielder.
Clement will be hoping for a rather swift return from injury for the 30-year-old, but once the transfer window opens in January, the Gers have some difficult conversations to be had.
In other Rangers news, Dave King’s manager plans have been foiled as an Ibrox-linked boss remains safe in his current job.
