Everton will be providing the blueprint for new stadiums after Manchester United sent top officials to the site of their new home at Bramley-Moore Dock, Dan Plumley has said.
The Sunday Mirror reported on 14 July (print edition, page 75) that a group was sent to “check over” the venue, which the Toffees hope to move into for the 2025-26 season.
United are weighing up their stadium options in the new Jim Ratcliffe era and finance expert Plumley said it is understandable other clubs are looking at the likes of Everton and Tottenham in terms of their stadium development.
Speaking to Goodison News, Plumley said: “I think you’re still looking at Spurs and Everton as the two newest stadiums.
“It’s always the way isn’t it somebody comes along and builds one in the next year everyone will be looking at what they’re doing.
“There are similarities now in the kinds of builds and what they’re trying to do, so I think Everton once the stadium is up and running, and the thinking that’s gone in behind it, it’s going to be one of the blueprints people look to.
“Especially looking at the Euros coming into this country in 2028 and what clubs want to do with the stadiums and what they can do with the stadiums.
“I think the interesting thing with Everton versus Spurs for example is the location of Everton right on the docks there, it’s not a massive move from where they’ve been but Spurs built their stadium pretty much right behind the old one.
“So there’s other things there that Everton have tried to do that other clubs will be looking at and you’ve got what will be the newest stadium in the country so it stands to reason that people will come and have a look at what you’re doing.”
Everton stadium can be a game-changer
There is still a whole lot of uncertainty surrounding Everton off the pitch right now, especially after the collapse of the Friedkin Group takeover.
But if, and it’s still an if right now unfortunately, they can get their ownership issues solved off the pitch then the potential at the Toffees is extremely high.
The new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock can be a genuine game-changer in terms of the sorts of commercial revenue it can bring to Everton.
It really is no wonder other clubs are taking a look at what’s going on with the development at the venue.
