Ibrox View: Rangers should consider 24-y/o player as Cerny replacement in 2025

Philippe Clement may have already found his Vaclav Cerny replacement at Rangers ahead of the January transfer window.

The Belgian admitted that the Light Blues cannot afford a permanent deal for the loan star, and his spell at Ibrox will not extend beyond the current season.

However, French news outlet Le Courrier Europeen recently reported [30 November] that the Gers have expressed interest in challenging Stade Rennais for the acquisition of Fenerbahce forward Oguz Aydin, with the Super Lig side looking to cash in.

The 24-year-old is on the fringes at Istanbul despite scoring three goals with one assist in five league appearances this year, and could be the perfect man to fill a Czech-sized void at Ibrox.

Rangers could sign Oguz Aydin in January

Clement will rue Rangers for not negotiating a purchase option in the loan deal for Cerny – replacing the forward will be no easy feat.

Cerny has found the back of the net nine times for the Light Blues across all competitions this season and stands as one of the few standout performers amid the chaos that has ensued at Ibrox.

The financial constraints crippling the Glaswegian outfit have reared their ugly head once more as negotiating a permanent acquisition of Cerny is out of reach, and his valuation will undoubtedly rise throughout the campaign if he continues on his current tear through Scotland.

However, a more creative approach is necessary in the transfer market, and a Jose Mourinho surplus to requirements forward could be the perfect solution for Clement.

Aydin can play across the frontline and has taken the limited opportunities that have come his way in Istanbul with both hands, yet first team opportunities remain limited at Fenerbahce.

The one-cap Turkish international is precisely the type of profile Rangers should target in January: a forward with all the tools to make an immediate impact but also available on a cut-price deal.

While interest from Stade Rennais could prove a stumbling block in a potential deal, a move to Ligue 1 could prove a step too far in his development, and Nils Koppen could well sell a move to Ibrox as the perfect landing spot to continue his progression in the Scottish Premiership.

Regardless, Cerny will no longer be a Ger next year and identifying a suitable replacement must be the utmost priority.
