'I'll not name any names...' - Ferguson claims 'Obstacles' put in way of Rangers-Aberdeen deal

Derek Ferguson has suggested the “issue” that a lot of people have when it comes to Rangers and Aberdeen may have delayed a move for Connor Barron.

The Scottish midfielder looks set to return from his holiday in Portugal to discuss a deal at Ibrox with the Light Blues now reportedly leading the race for him, which Ferguson had become aware of prior to the report emerging in the Scottish Sun on 12 June.

And the pundit feels it is possible that “obstacles” may have been put in the way of the 21-year-old making a move earlier, although he is delighted at the prospect of Philippe Clement picking him up this summer on a free transfer.

He exclusively told Ibrox News: “He played really well for Aberdeen. Everyone has this issue with Rangers-Aberdeen or Aberdeen-Rangers so maybe we were trying to get him a bit earlier.

“But because of that sometimes people put obstacles in the way. I’ll not name any names.

“He’s out of contract, very good football player, more to come from him, he’s not going to cost us anything.

“Yes I would love the wee fella to be at our club.”

Philippe Clement may have wanted to bring Connor Barron to Rangers already.

Aberdeen presumably aren’t delighted to potentially lose Barron for just a compensation fee full stop but if there is enough animosity between them and Rangers then it will displease them even more for him to seemingly be on the way to Ibrox.

Should an agreement get done with the youngster now it would be the cheapest route for the Light Blues to bring him in, so whether such a switch has been deliberately held up or not this may make most sense either way.

It is not a done deal until everything is confirmed but there will surely be some hope of signing him now, in what would be a significant new addition.

In other Rangers news, an international defender has admitted that he is being asked about an Ibrox move.
