Everton are not one step away from completing the signing of Napoli winger Jesper Lindstrom, according to Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports journalist reacted to Corriere dello Sport claiming in their 18 July print edition that the Toffees are very close to reaching an agreement with the Denmark international.
The 24-year-old, if he joins, will be the third one through the door at Goodison Park this summer after Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam.
Myers wrote on X on 18 July: “There is an interest, but I’m pretty sure it’s not one step away from being reality.”
Everton need to take time to ensure Jesper Lindstrom is the right fit
The Toffees’ pursuit of Lindstrom is a significant move in the transfer market, but the club must take time to ensure he is the right fit for their squad as he’s not one step away as first understood.
Rushing into a deal without thorough evaluation could lead to a costly mistake, given the financial implications and the player’s recent struggles at Napoli.
Everton need to assess Lindstrom’s adaptability to the Premier League and his compatibility with the team’s playing style and philosophy.
Moreover, the club should also consider potential alternatives to Lindstrom.
The transfer market is dynamic, and other players might become available who could be a better fit for the Toffees.
Exploring other options provides a safety net in case negotiations with Lindstrom fall through or if his signing does not work out as expected.
By taking a measured approach, the Merseyside outfit can make a more informed decision that aligns with their long-term goals and minimises the risk of a costly transfer mistake.
In other Everton news, a Toffees shareholder has reacted to a claim of Gareth Southgate potentially taking over the reins from Sean Dyche.
