Goodison View: Everton may regret decision as youth midfielder seals Nottingham Forest transfer

Everton may regret their decision on midfielder Shae Cahill with Nottingham Forest announcing they’ve signed him on a two-year deal.

The City Ground outfit confirmed the news via their official website on 18 July, with Cahill mutually deciding to terminate his contract at Brisbane Roar.

He joined the Toffees academy when he was 11 and the 19-year-old will now represent Forest’s B team after leaving the Merseyside club in 2023.

The Toffees may come to regret letting Cahill leave as he has now joined Nottingham and could potentially become a first-team player for them.

In future seasons, given how the trajectory of the two clubs has been, he could be the difference maker towards deciding a relegation battle.

Usually, pretty good at retaining their talents, Everton’s decision to release Cahill from their academy could be seen as a missed opportunity to develop a promising young talent, especially given his family’s strong football pedigree with his uncles and brother playing at a reputed level.

The 19-year-old’s move to Brisbane Roar and subsequent transfer to Nottingham Forest demonstrates his potential and ambition to succeed in the sport.

If he continues to develop and progresses to the first team at Forest, the Toffees may regret letting go of someone who’s been training at Finch Farm since an 11-year-old.
