‘I’m told’: What West Ham players think about Julen Lopetegui after 4-1 Tottenham loss - journalist

West Ham had an ambitious summer after appointing Julen Lopetegui and making a number of impressive signings in the transfer market.

Despite a lot of attention in the off-season, the east London side have endured a tough start to the new Premier League season, with West Ham easily beaten 4-1 by city rivals Tottenham, with the Irons now 15th in the standings.

With Jeff Stelling puzzled as to why Crysencio Summerville is not being picked by Lopetegui, the pressure is starting to mount for the former Wolves manager, who has endured a rough start to life at West Ham.

And a tide could be about to turn at West Ham in regard to some players.

Some West Ham players not ‘convinced’ by Lopetegui

According to TalkSport’s Alex Crooks, some members of West Ham’s playing squad are not ‘necesarily convinced’ by what Lopetegui has done so far, with the Spanish manager yet to get the best out of his new team.

Crooks said: “I’m told the players aren’t necessarily convinced by him. There’s been one or two issues hasn’t there, there was the incident between him and Mohammed Kudus at Brentford, the bust-up at half-time which was played down a little bit by my sources at West Ham.

“Obviously, Kudus has again got a bit hot-headed and got himself sent off. It didn’t change the outcome, but it’s not a great look when one of your star players does that. I think there are some question marks. That win against Ipswich just before the international break will buy him some time, but we know West Ham fans are not renowned for their patience and they’re already starting to turn.

“There were some members of the hierarchy that weren’t entirely sure about the appointment in the first place so the more results that go against them, the concerns are going to get louder.”

Lopetegui also looks like a dead man walking at West Ham

Having signed the likes of Summerville, Jean-Clair Todibo and Guido Rodriguez, it’s quite astonishing how poor West Ham have been this season given the immense amount of talent the Irons brought in alongside Lopetegui.

And over two months into the new season, the former Spain manager already looks like a dead man walking at West Ham, with Lopetegui yet to get a tune out of the London Stadium side despite having a full pre-season with the Irons.

Indeed, as per West Ham’s next five Premier League fixtures, Lopetegui might need a miracle if he’s to keep his job by the end of November, where the Hammers could be facing a relegation battle of sorts if the Spaniard can’t steer this ship around in the coming weeks.
