'My Sources Say...' - Keith Wyness drops 'Exclusive' update on Textor's Everton takeover

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed John Textor does not have an exclusive agreement with the club over a potential takeover.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the lack of exclusivity will be due to his involvement at Crystal Palace and a subsequent reluctance to give the US investor full access to the Toffees’ books.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports (12 September), Textor claimed becoming the new owner of Everton would be like becoming President of the United States.

He also suggested he feels a deal is close to being reached – an assertion which was shot down in an official club statement.

Last week (12 September), Everton insisted “there remains some work to be done to complete the transaction”.

Textor still owns 45% of Crystal Palace and must relieve himself of those shares in order to take control at Goodison Park.

Textor does not have ‘exclusive’ Everton agreement, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “We’ve got to clarify what Textor has in his agreement.

“I’ve spoken to some sources about this very closely.

“He’s not got what we would usually call an exclusive agreement.

“Everton announced they had an exclusive deal with 777 Partners, and with Dan Friedkin – but you’ll note that the club has never announced that agreement with Textor.

“While there’s an agreement, there’s not an exclusive one.

“I think that’s because Textor still has shares in Crystal Palace. It’s then difficult to give him full access to the books at Everton, and access to all the player wages.”
